Over Zigi:
I was born in Stellenbosch and grew up and went to school there. My father was a teacher of Afrikaans and history at Paul Roos Gymnasium, and my late mother was a lecturer in library and information science at Stellenbosch University. After school, I completed national service before returning to Stellenbosch to first obtain a degree in drama and then in journalism at the university.
I gained my first journalistic experience abroad at a community newspaper in the south of London. Since my return to South Africa, 23 years ago, I have been employed by Media24. During this time, I have been involved in both the newspaper and magazine divisions and have also gained extensive experience in digital journalism.
I have been married to Christélle for the past 22 years, a lecturer in engineering communication and ethics at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and we live in the northern suburbs of Cape Town with our dog, Stanley.
