Acclaimed South African Canadian poet, Klara du Plessis, launches her new poetry collection, Ek’t Act (Karavan Press, 2025). The title slippage between agency and being, on the one hand, and performance, on the other, is amplified in Ek’t Act’s homophonic play across languages. Expanding on Du Plessis’ earlier translingual poetry, this collection flows seamlessly between English and Afrikaans. The collection features a lyrical speaker and a child. They are woven together through language, landscape, body, and verse. Ek’t Act enacts a performative tenor, resonating out loud.
