Since 2016 journalists from South Africa’s Media24 have periodically been living at Het Zuid-Afrikahuis on the Keizersgracht. During their stay of two months, the journalists gain experience abroad and then write about their knowledge gained during their travels in Europe and the Netherlands, for their own media in South Africa. Since October 2025, journalist Kayla Alexander has been staying in the apartment above Het Zuid-Afrikahuis! On the 11th of December at 16:00 she will give her lecture on the Future of Journalism.
Her lecture will aim to explore and answer the question, “What does the future of Afrikaans journalism in South Africa look like?”
Kayla Alexander is the Head of Audience Development for Media24’s Netwerk24. In this lecture, beyond simply answering the question posed above, she will also integrate discussions on how artificial intelligence, social media, new consumer behaviours, socio-political and economic shifts, and a changing culture will impact the way we tell the stories that matter in a language with declining speakers.
Please note that this lecture will take place in English.
