Since 2016, journalists from the South African Media24 have been staying on the Keizersgracht. During their two-month stay, the journalists gain international experience and write about the Netherlands and Europe for their own media in South Africa. In May and June 2026, Vicus Bürger will be staying in the apartment above the Zuid-Afrikahuis!
About Vicus Bürger
Vicus Bürger is Netwerk24’s News Editor for the Northern Region of South Africa. He is an award-winning journalist — among several accolades, he was named Vodacom’s Young Journalist of the Year and honoured with the Pfizer/SADAG award for outstanding reporting on mental health. He completed his degree in media studies, cum laude, at the University of the Free State. In addition to other journalism courses, he studied at the Thomson Foundation in Cardiff, Wales, and completed a short internship at The Guardian in London. During his career, he has reported on politics, crime, entertainment, arts, health, and sports as both a general reporter and an investigative journalist. He has published in Netwerk24, Volksblad, Beeld, Die Burger, and Rapport. Internationally, he has published stories in The Observer, the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper. Vicus was born in Bloemfontein, Free State, and grew up in the small town of Theunissen in the northern part of the province. Outside the newsroom, he enjoys playing golf and tennis, loves to travel, and has a deep appreciation of art, literature, and music.
